General Rules and Information:

This Plant Society Small Standard Flower Show conforms to the standards of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. and the California Garden Clubs, Inc. Division I shall be judged by members of the Riverside San Bernardino Counties Orchid Society, Inc. There will be no American Orchid Society judging. Divisions II and III shall be judged by N.G.C. accredited Flower Show Judges. The decisions made by the Judges shall be final.

Each Exhibitor agrees, upon making entry, to abide by the rules and regulations of the Show. Exhibitors are expected to familiarize themselves with the Show rules and regulations. Requirements for each Division are very specific. Please read the Schedule carefully to avoid errors. The Schedule is the “Law of the Show” and all entries MUST conform to the Schedule.

1. Competition is open to all amateur orchid growers and floral designers. For the purpose of this Show an 'amateur orchid grower' is defined as any person who has not sold more than a total of two hundred (200) plants in the past year. There is no
fee to enter an exhibit in this Show.

2. Emphasis is on fresh plant materials. No artificial plant material is permitted in any Division. No materials on the CGCI conservation list may be used.

3. Entries will be accepted for Division I from 11:00 am until 6:45 pm on Friday Nov. 13. Entries for Divisions II and III will be accepted on Friday Nov. 13 from 3 to 6 pm and on Sat. Nov. 14 from 7 to 8 am. All entries will close PROMPTLY at 8:00 am on Sat. Nov 14. so judging can begin. Only authorized personnel are allowed in the Show area during judging. Late entries MAY be exhibited, but not judged.

4. Exhibitors shall check in at the registration area and complete the official entry cards provided. All Exhibits must have a completed official entry card that includes Exhibitor's number, Division, Section and Class number in accordance with the Schedule. No other identification tags/signs should be visible. Only Design entries may be placed by the Exhibitor. All other entries will be placed by the Show Committee. Any Exhibit
may be moved by the Show Committee, if necessary. Classes may be subdivided where warranted.

5. A single Exhibit cannot be entered in more than one Class. No cut flowers excepting those used in Division II and Division III will be permitted.

6. Improperly classified plants or exhibits will be reclassified if possible, or may be disqualified at the discretion of the judges. Exhibited plants must be insect and disease free. The Show Committee reserves the right to remove exhibits and or plants
at any time.

7. This Show will be open to the public from 10:00am. to 5:00pm.on Saturday and Sunday. Exhibitors are encouraged to groom their exhibits, if necessary - between 9 -10 am on Sunday. All Exhibits and Awards must remain in place until 5:00 pm Sunday. Exhibitors may claim their entries and awards ONLY AFTER 5:00 pm on Sunday. Entries not claimed by 5:30 pm may be discarded.

8. AWARDS: Ribbons may be awarded in each class or subclass if merited: one Blue (first), one Red (second), one White (third) and one Green (Honorable Mention) - the
Standard System of Awarding ( 07NGCFSHB, pages 5-7). In Divisions II and III, the Scales of Points for judging shall be taken from the 07NGCFSHB, pages 303-304 and Judges will recognize Exhibits scoring 90 and above. RSBCOS Awards and NGC Awards, as noted in the Schedule, may be awarded. 9. Running water is not allowed in any exhibit. High intensity lighting is prohibited.

10. The Riverside San Bernardino Counties Orchid Society reserves the right to refuse entry by any commercial vendor, society or individual. All questions regarding the
interpretation of these rules or regulations shall be referred to the Show Chair, whose decision will be final.

11. Riverside-San Bernardino Counties Orchid Society, RHIS Floral Design Group, Redlands Horticultural and Improvement Society and Kimberly-Shirk Association will
not be responsible for any damage or loss to exhibits or other property of exhibitors nor injury to person or persons. However, due care and precaution will be exercised for the
protection of all.

DIVISIONS & SECTIONS

Division I – CONTAINER GROWN ORCHIDS IN FLOWER RULES

1. All container grown orchid specimens in this Division must have been grown by the Exhibitor and in the possession of the Exhibitor not less than 90 days.

2. Pot size may not exceed 12 inches. Double potting and top dressing are permitted. Double potted exhibits must not exceed the maximum 12 inches.

3. No other blooms but orchids are allowed. No dyed moss or dyed foliage of any kind will be permitted.

4. Community racks for hanging plants will be provided. Exhibitors may provide individual support for hanging plants, provided the support is stable and does not require excessive space. Any support judged by the Committee as excessively
large or unstable will not be allowed.

Division II - DESIGN RULES

1. All entries in this Division must be the work of one Exhibitor. Class titles are intended to stimulate the imagination, but are not to be taken literally,. Orchids MUST be featured in all Designs but need not have been grown by the Exhibitor. Each
entry must contain some plant material. No artificial plant material may be used.

2. Exhibitors may enter more than one design, but only one Exhibit per Class. Design Classes are limited and require advance reservations. Four entries in three Classes must be filled for Awards to be offered. Please contact Design Consultant Joyce Dean at 909 798-9384 or gardenclub@rhis.org by Nov. 2, 2009 to reserve your spaces.
Detailed Design requirements may be requested. Exhibitors who have made reservations must provide a substitute if unable to participate and must notify the Design Consultant of any substitution.

3. Only dried material may be painted or treated. Cut fruit or vegetables must be properly sealed. Landscapes or scenes and living members of the Animal Kingdom are not permitted. Flags or religious symbols, if used, must be displayed in a
respectful and proper manner.

4. Accessories and featured items are permitted but should be in scale with the overall design. Coverings, drapes and underlays are permitted but may not extend beyond the edge of the table and cannot be attached to the furnished niches.

5. Containers and accessories should be marked with Exhibitor's name. Expensive and/or irreplaceable items should not be used; if used, it will be at Exhibitor's risk.

6. NGC Award of Design Excellence (07NGCFSHB, pages 45-46), may be awarded to the most outstanding Design scoring 95 points or more in Division II .
